The anticipation of the 2020 Bledisloe Cup for fans had reached new levels with so much sport being hibernated during the COVID-19 pandemic across the world.

Wallabies Fans XV

One of the shining lights in the southern hemisphere, during a seemingly extended winter, had been how rugby had adapted and emerged with a different competition format in Super Rugby AU and Super Rugby NZ, yet one that delivered so many gripping contests for fans on both sides of the Tasman.

Coming into the 2020 Bledisloe Cup with the New Zealand All Blacks, the Wallabies team has a very untested squad with many new faces that represent a new energy and excitement of the hope ahead.

Dave Rennie, keen to stamp his influence and prove to the rugby community underlining his faith in Australia’s generation next.

The new recent names in the Wallabies line up include Lachlan Swinton, Waratahs back-rower and Tom Wright, Brumbies winger joining Fraser McReight and exciting backs Hunter Paisami, Irae Simone, Noah Lolesio, Filipo Daugunu and Tate McDermott who have already made their Test debuts in the Bledisloe Cup cauldron this year.

Rugby Australia ran a Wallabies Fan XV campaign and encouraged fans to select their starting team from a curated list players, many of whom had their profile elevated during the Super Rugby AU season where the Brumbies triumphed over the Reds in a thrilling final.

Using the Campaignware Squad Selector template, Wallabies sponsor ASICS captured data and consumer insights from the fan submissions.

The campaign sparked great debate via the Wallabies social channels, creating awareness of the upcoming games and delivering a valuable fan engagement for sponsor ASICS.

The campaign provides an outlet for fans to connect and debate whether Daugunu and Hanigan should be shifted to the bench or who should join 102-Test skipper Michael Hooper in the back row.
